When it comes to making headlines, fewer celebrities can top the Kardashians. Whether it’s Khloé, Kourtney, Kris, Kylie or Kendall, name one Keeping Up With The Kardashians star who isn’t the focus of most celebrity news stories.
Then there’s the biggest Kardashian of them all: Kim.
From her love life to her beauty routine, the KKW Beauty founder and SKIMS entrepeneur is never far from the spotlight and constantly satisfies her Insta fans (of which there are no less than 363 million) with an inside look into the life of Kim.
And this week has been no exception with the focus very much on her hair. More specifically, her hair color.
Kim has been embracing her natural brunette locks up until very recently. She wore it down and Hollywood-style at the Oscars Vanity Fair party earlier this year, looking stunning in a striking white Balenciaga gown.
She’s also shown us tons of more natural photos over the past few months, including an up-close-and-personal snap just a few weeks ago while having her skin pampered at a beauty spa (or her home, who knows!).
Life goals, right there!
But at the weekend, Kim went back to icy, platinum blonde as she hit the Homeboy Industries’ 2024 Lo Maximo Awards and Fundraising Gala in Los Angeles. She was honored at the awards for her commitment to criminal justice reform, something she began pursuing way back in 2018.
Many of her followers figured this latest blonde look was a wig, but her long-time hairstylist, Chris Appleton, soon put those rumors right.
“We wanted to keep a short root & the blonde cool & creamy,” he wrote.
“I colored it in a couple of sessions to keep the integrity of the hair nice and juicy.”
Kim wore her icy blonde tresses slicked back into a chic bun and revealed some beautiful, drop-silver earrings alongside nude lips (classic Kim!), contoured brows and lashes to die for. Word was that she’s gone blonde in preparation for the 2024 Met Gala which hits The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday (May 6).
The official dress code for this year’s always-lavish do is ‘The Garden Of Time’ so maybe Kim’s planned outfit requires lighter hair than her usual brunette mane. Who knows? All we can say is that we just hope there’ll be no repeat of Kim resurrecting Marilyn Monroe’s iconic Happy Birthday, Mr. President dress which was shrouded by controversy at the 2022 Met Gala. Only time will tell.
In the meantime, let’s just enjoy her blonde mane. Or maybe not because you turn your back for one second and another new do hits Kim’s grid.
On Tuesday (April 30) Kim switched things up one more time, showing off a whole new look: one that’s undoubtedly her shortest, most dramatic transformation for a very long time.
The 43-year-old took to the gram to reveal a whole gallery of photos showing her latest hair makeover in all its glory. MANY people commented on her new look (good and bad), but when all’s said and done over 1.2 million loved it. And that’s some big numbers.
So, had she had her hair chopped into ‘the’ cut of the season, the lob? Nope. Had she gone back to her trademark dark brown locks? Not even close. In actual fact, Kim donned a short, like really short (for Kim, anyway!), wet-look chop.
And it was pink.

Wearing thigh high, black Balenciaga boots, a long-sleeved mockneck black top and velvet, body-skimming hot pants, this new grungey, slicked back look is a far cry from Kim’s usual super-long tresses. And her fans seemed undecided/shocked/sceptical about the change.
Sister Khloe was a big fan, commenting with just one word, “Looooooove.” While her hairdresser, Chris Appleton agreed with, “Hot” and actress Salma Hayek weighed in with, “🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥.”
But others weren’t so sure, slamming her new look as “straight outta Censori’s playbook.”
“I couldn’t tell if this was his ex wife or his current wife,” commented one fan, comparing her hair to that of her ex-husband Kanye West’s (sorry Ye’s) new partner, Bianca Censori.
Bianca, who allegedly married the rapper in December 2022 and is head of architecture at Yeezy, often wears her bobbed hair in a wet, grungey style and is also known for her love of black, figure-hugging outfits. There also seems to be no love lost between Kim and Bianca, so it’s easy to see why the cheeky comparison was made.

Either way, we kind of like Kim’s rock chick look which contrasted her dark roots with cool pink strands. We mean, if anyone can get away with such a dramatic makeover, Kim can. And hey, it’s not the first time she’s dabbled with pink locks, having done full-length pink hair back in 2018 while filming Keeping Up With The Kardashians with her family.
However, on Thursday (May 2) Kim posted yet another new photo to her Insta feed, wearing her hair long and platinum blonde again. Honestly, we cannot keep up!
We’re not sure if this is a wig and her hair really is short and pink right now, or whether the pink crop was the wig. However, all these hair teases are getting us very excited to see what she comes up with for this weekend’s highly anticipated Met Gala.
