If you thought the bob trend was going away, you’d better think again because this weekend, Jessica Biel became the latest celebrity to join in on what is fast becoming the hottest haircut of the summer.
Jessica took to Instagram on Sunday, May 19 and teased us with a photo in which it looked like half of her hair had been chopped off into a chin-length bob. Oooh! Of course, we were intrigued so we clicked on the photo where all was revealed in a cool reel.
Wearing a Rolling Stones graphic tee and gorgeous, natural-looking makeup, the 42-year old Texas Chainsaw Massacre actress looked straight at the camera while holding her long locks in two low bunches and pulling on the ends of her hair.
She tilted her head from side to side to the beat of the now infamous TikTok reloading gun tune before reappearing in a second clip donning a completely different outfit. And having lost a good 10-12 inches of hair!
Gone was the rock ‘n roll tee in favor of a tailored blazer, ribbed white tank and chunky gold necklace. Also gone? Half of her hair!
“Brought back the f*** ass bob,” she aptly wrote as she revealed her new look.
Not sure what the whole ‘f*** ass bob’ thing is about?
Well, the phrase kicked off in a Vine in 2017 when two schoolgirls were arguing in class and one shouted it at the other. It was a diss, btw.
Fast forward five years and it was used again in a Tweet about bob-loving Euphoria character, Kat Hernandez, who was played by Barbie Ferrieira. And after that, the ‘f*** ass bob,’ or FAB as it’s more kindly called, officially blew up.
It’s now seen as a much more favorable term and often used as a reference to any middle-part bob that’s chin-length and preferably sans bangs! Kind of bad ass, but with a little extra sass, if you will!
It’s not the first time Jessica has sported shorter hair (remember those Seventh Heaven days back in the late ‘90s, early aughts?). However, her gorgeous long locks have become more her thing in recent years as she’s carved out a real name for herself in the acting and producing world with hits like The Sinner and Candy.
But with a new children’s book to promote right now, ‘A Kids Book About Periods,’ maybe Jessica wanted to showcase a new look. And why not? We’ve all been there, right?
Bobs seems to be the only way to wear your hair in La-La Land this summer with everyone from Sydney Sweeney and Aubrey Plaza to Zendaya and Gigi Hadid working awesome, jaw-length bobs on the red carpet.
In fact, bobs are so popular this season they’ve been split off into various micro trends and given their own cute names! Think Italian bob, French bob, micro bob, mushroom bob, gosh, there’s even something called the jellyfish bob doing the rounds—although that one’s a bit more mullet-y if you ask us.
We think Jessica’s version checks the French bob boxes – with a little FAB thrown in for good measure. It sits just above her chin and has choppy ends that will look great styled straight or wavy.

Yup, he’s kind of a massive deal. And we don’t know about you, but we’d be very happy to trust him with our tresses!
Her color was also freshened up by Meche salon’s Tracey Cunningham who’s another big wig in LA and probably one of the most in-demand hair colorists in the nation. She often highlights Jessica’s hair to keep it bright and gorgeous for the red carpet.
