When Beyoncé Knowles-Carter posts an intimate video of her in-salon hair ritual we stop what we’re doing immediately. Because, if you hadn’t noticed, we’re ever so slightly hair obsessed. Also, it’s Beyoncé and certain celebrities command our undivided attention – no matter what they do.
The ‘Texas Hold ‘Em’ singer took to Instagram on Monday to show fans exactly what’s used on her hair when it gets washed, conditioned, dried and styled at the salon. She was joining in on the #cecredwashday hashtag which have seen fans of her haircare brand, Cécred uploading their own hair washing rituals to social media, using products from her range.
“It has been such a special experience seeing all of your #cecredwashday rituals all over my timeline…” she captioned. “I just had to join in with something I had in the archives.”
Yes, there IS a hair god!
Looking as gorgeous as ever, wearing minimal makeup (or maybe even none at all!) but with her nails polished and shaped to perfection, the 42-year-old megastar showed off a lengthy video while sat in the salon chair.
And not only do we get to watch her up-close-and-personal as her hair gets beautified in minutes (when in actual fact, it probably took hours!), but she also talks us through each step of her wash day hair care routine. Her much loved stylist, Neal Farinah, who has worked with Queen Bey for 18 years and who is the Global Hairstylist for Cécred, also posted the same reel.
Neal runs his own salon in Brooklyn, New York and, as well as tending to Bey’s awesome hair, also teases the tresses of Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams and Mary J. Blige. Not that we like to name drop, of course!
But back to the news of the day…
“Now that Cécred is known for the quality and what it does for your hair, I think it’s about time I show y’all what it does for my hair,” Beyoncé begins as we watch her hair being cleansed and then treated with one of her favorite products from the Cécred range, the Fermented Rice & Rose Protein Ritual. This is an two-step treatment she says she loves to use when her hair has been freshly colored.
Following this treatment, her hair is lavished with the Deep Conditioner which she claims is also one of her favorites from the collection.
“There’s nothing in the world like the conditioner. I love it… I’m really proud of the quality,” she says. A touch of Moisture Sealing Lotion is then applied before she gets down to some serious heat styling.
“I like to blow-dry my hair on medium heat because I try to stay away from as much heat as possible,” she explains. Smart woman. She then uses a flat iron for straightening, finishes with the fan favorite Nourishing Hair Oil and hell, girl, that’s some serious shine right there!
“I’ve been using these products and my hair has never grown so long or been so moisturized and I’ve managed to keep my texture and my curls, even with my hair so blonde,” she adds.
“My hair is flourishing.”
And she is not kidding because there’s no denying her hair looks totally amazing these days. Whether she’s in the salon, on the red carpet or promoting her latest single, her blonde hair never disappoints. Does she even have bad hair days? Wow. If that’s what Cécred does for textured locks, count us very much in.
During the video, Beyoncé, who is known to own a very impressive array of custom wigs, also addresses some common misconceptions about wig wearers…
“The stigma and misconception is that people that wear wigs don’t have long and healthy hair. That’s some bullsh*t cause it ain’t nobody business.”
Well, she is living proof, that’s for sure.
“Maintaining 25 years of blonde on natural hair through all the experimenting I do has played a huge part in developing @cecred’s products. It’s the hardest to keep color-treated hair healthy and strong, but @cecred is here. All quality, with NO shortcuts. Congratulations to the entire CÉCRED team for contributing to developing award-winning products. 💕”
Cécred (pronounced ‘sacred’) is the baby of both Beyoncé and her mom and Cécred vice chairwoman, Tina Knowles. Together, they launched the luxurious range of hair care and styling products back in February of this year. And it’s not just a frivolous range of products to make a quick buck. It actually has an endearing back story that we love.
When Beyoncé was a young girl, Tina Knowles ran a hairdressing salon in Houston for years. Little Bey spent much of her youth hanging out and sweeping hair in her mom’s salon where she watched her clients walk out totally transformed – both physically and mentally.
And being able to recreate that positive feeling was exactly what she wanted for her haircare range. In Bey’s words, it was a “lifelong dream to create these hair products and bring some of my mother’s teachings to life.”
There are eight products in the Cécred range including two shampoos and a super-luxe treatment mask. These sit alongside various tools, accessories, kits and bundles which range from $20 up to a whopping $265, although you do get the whole kit and caboodle for that! Oh, and word is that a brand new Hydrating Conditioner is coming very soon. Watch this space.
As celebrity-backed beauty ventures go, we rate Cécred right up there with one of our faves of all time – which is Sarah Jessica Parker’s Lovely fragrance since you asked. Cécred is honest, packed with incredible, hair-loving ingredients and, if Bey’s hair is anything to by, it definitely gets the job done.
